JOHN COULTAS

A British and US citizen, entered the British Royal Navy in 1970 where he studied radio communications and electrical engineering. He performed 10 years service in various roles including an extended time at the communications base on the island of Mauritius and as a non-commissioned officer was decorated for active service in Northern Ireland.

Following his military service Coultas joined the Systems division of Thomas De La Rue specialising in the design, development and manufacture of sophisticated banknote sorting, counting and authentication systems. He held various positions that quickly evolved from an engineering role to commercial responsibilities and in 1983 moved to Latin America to become responsible for sales and technical support throughout the region. He travelled extensively throughout the area and lived and worked in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Brazil until his return to the UK in 1988.

From 1988 until 2002 Coultas remained within the telecommunications arena in various business development positions for both equipment manufacturers and operators. He spent six years living in California with five of them for a smart antenna technology leader based in San Jose. During this period he has frequently participated as a public speaker at international forums, providing insight into the technological developments, applications and benefits of adaptive antenna arrays.

In 2002 he took a career break in Latin America before he returned to the USA and joined SOMA Networks in June 2007 before he became an independent consultant for business in Latin America residing in Houston, Texas.

As a part of his continued interest in radio communication Coultas is a licensed radio ham (NRØJ and MØDFC) and his other hobbies include photography and cooking.
